For those wanting to go bushwalking in Sydney, New South Wales, there are many opportunities close by. Sydney hiking trails include the Royal National Park, the world's second oldest National Park, and Mt. Kuringah Chase National Park.
Only got a few hours, but want to try some outdoor hiking? Sydney enjoys numerous walking tracks. Why not try the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb, The Rocks historic walk, the Sans Souci walk along the Sydney Harbour or walk out to The Heads from Manly.
For long distance bushwalking, Sydney to Hunter Valley trail, The Great North Walk, is a 250 klm walk taking up to 16 days.
The Blue Mountains, due west of Sydney, are a striking geological feature. Blue Mountains hiking trails include the magnificent 45 klm Katoomba to the Jenolan (limestone) Caves walk, also known as the Six Foot Track. This is a 3-day hike with shorter walks available along the route. There are dozens of shorter Blue Mountains hiking trails throughout the region.
Hiking in NSW would not be complete without walking the famous Great Dividing Range. The Myalls Heritage Track transverses the crest of the range north of Sydney for 220 klms, commencing at Barrington Tops National Park, taking 11-12 days to walk and culminating at the Pacific coast.
NSW hiking trail, the Hume and Hovell Track, runs between Yass and the Murray River in Albury for 440 klms following the route taken by explorers, Hume and Hovell.
